Government to appoint Children’s e-Safety Commissioner

Children's e-Safety Commissioner

I took Minister Turnbull and The Hon. Paul Fletcher to Strathfield Girls High School this week to announce that the Government is preparing legislation to enhance online safety for children and will be delivering on its election commitment to appoint a Children’s e-Safety Commissioner.

This will help to ensure that there is an effective complaints system, backed by legislation, to get harmful cyberbullying material that targets Australian children removed from large social media sites.

This initiative is an important step in ensuring the safety of our children online in a world where bullying is no longer restricted to the school playground and is increasingly affecting children in their own homes through social media.
