$15,000 in Federal Grants for Touched by Olivia Foundation

Today I had the great pleasure and privilege with Minister for Social Services Christian Porter to announce $15,000 in federal grants for the Touched by Olivia Foundation. This will be used to help their volunteers and allow them to expand their playspace in Timbrell Park. Touched By Olivia is a cornerstone of our local community that has overseen the development of over a dozen playspaces across Australia – but their flagship playspace is right here in Five Dock.

I had the pleasure of showing Minister Porter around Livvi’s Place in Five Dock and allowing him to see firsthand how these unique environments allow children of all ages and all abilities to play side by side.

I look forward to seeing the site continue to grow!

Rats of Tobruk

74 years ago the “Rats of Tobruk” defeated Rommel & the Nazis.

Today Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove joined us to honour our 6 remaining “Rats of Reid.”

A wonderful celebration by Five Dock RSL in honour of ordinary Australians that did extraordinary things in WW2.

After the first Parliamentary sitting period of 2015, it’s great to be back in Reid for the autumn break and to say I’m looking forward to catching up with the locals is an understatement!!

Reid Community Cup

This year I am “kicking off” the Reid Community Cup!

The Reid Community Cup brings together eight local charities from across our electorate for a 1 day, 5-a-side soccer tournament on Sunday 15 March at Timbrell Park, Five Dock.

I am passionate about the Community Cup because it is an opportunity to promote the organisations that have such a vital role in our community through the work they undertake on a daily basis – as well providing a fun day out for our community to come together and watch the soccer.

Each of the eight charities enters one team made up of their employees, volunteers and in many cases the people they help!

On the day, we’ll be providing a sausage sizzle (voluntary coin donation). Members of the public can also donate straight to the charities on the day and we’ll have details on how to get involved if they’re looking for volunteers.

Stay tuned between now and the day of the tournament as I’ll be introducing each of the teams participating in the tournament…
