Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting Bassam, one of Homebush Boys High‘s finest. Bassam is one of only a handful of students in NSW selected to attend the YMCA Youth & Government NSW Junior Parliament, where he will represent our community in debating important issues in our state and country, and put forward solutions with other young people from around NSW.

I have no doubt that Bassam will do a terrific job and look forward to a debrief in the coming weeks!

Well done Bassam!

Bressington Park

I’m excited to have announced with Julie Bishop MP that a re-elected Turnbull Government will contribute $1 Million towards a proposed Korean themed community garden in Bressington Park, Homebush.

The Garden will be a great facility for the entire local community and reflect the culture and
heritage of Australia’s magnificent Australian-Korean community.

Our local Australian-Korean community is a driving force behind our local economy and the contribution they make to our broader community is incredible. This garden will provide a fitting opportunity for us to reflect on that contribution and the historic ties that exist between Korea and Australia.

Thank you to all involved. I might need more practice before my next drumming performance!

Yesterday I was joined by the Prime Minister of Australia, Malcolm Turnbull, to say G’day to some of our locals in Homebush. There was laughter and there was grieving, there was surprise and there was fruitful discussion, but all in all Reid’s trust, support and faith in the Prime Minister was undeniable. I am so proud of our electorate’s strong diversity, strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.

I feel like I travelled the globe this past weekend, but the truth is that I experienced so many different and engaging cultures without even leaving my local area! The varied events throughout the weekend demonstrate, emphatically, the freedom Australians of all backgrounds enjoy in coming together to celebrate their cultural heritage. I am proud that in this country we respect and embrace the rights of all Australians to celebrate, practise and maintain their cultural traditions within the law and free from discrimination.

Yesterday the Tamil Study Centre Homebush hosted the 29th Annual Kalai Vizha celebrations. I am immensely proud of the Tamil Study Centre’s important work, since 1987, in teaching Tamil language, arts and culture to students from pre-school age to Year 12, and helping to ensure Tamil culture continues to be lived and celebrated.

Congratulations to the Tamil Study Centre and everyone else who celebrated cultural events and milestones this past weekend.
