As of tomorrow, Canada Bay council will be the only Local Government Authority in Reid to charge residents fees for parking outside of their own homes.
There are many advantages to Parking Permit Schemes, such as improving the opportunity for residents and their visitors to park near their homes and to assist local businesses to operate effectively. However, this should not come at a cost.
Canada Bay council issued more parking tickets than any other council in Sydney, netting in an extra $2.17 million in revenue from fines in the five years to 2012-13. Considering this massive windfall, there appear to be no grounds for introducing a paid parking scheme, and I again urge Canada Bay council to listen to the community and abolish these unnecessary and unfair charges.
