10th anniversary of the OPAL Reactor at Lucas Heights

Lucas Heights
Today, it was an absolute pleasure to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the OPAL reactor at Lucas Heights with ANSTO CEO Adi Paterson, Craig Kelly, Lee Evans Heathcote, and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Yukiya Amano.

Science and innovation are a key focus for the Turnbull Government, and through the National Innovation and Science Agenda, we are providing long-term funding certainty for cutting-edge, national research infrastructure to ensure Australia remains at the forefront of global discovery. Including providing $520 million over the next decade for the Australian Synchrotron, $294 million for the Square Kilometre Array, and $1.5 billion in the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy over the next decade.

We have also tasked an Expert Working Group led by the Chief Scientist to develop a National Research Infrastructure Road-map to guide our future investment decisions.

These initiatives will ensure that Australia’s researchers have the infrastructure they need to keep delivering world-class results.
