CRAIG’S
position
ON THE
ISSUE
“Australia has and always will be a country built on the back of migration. I am determined to provide equal opportunities to our newest members of our community and connect people with people to build a commitment to social justice across our electorate of Reid.”
- Craig Laundy MP

I am determined to support and develop local initiatives that seek to break the cycle of disengagement and vulnerability, especially in those groups who have travelled a long way to join us in Australia.

I have lived in this community my entire life, this electorate is my home and as such I am working hard to ensure that we can make a positive change wherever possible.

Our ‘Community Outreach’ strategy is working within the community and I am listening to the concerns at a grass roots level as real progression comes from the ground up.

The objective of my time in office is to represent the Reid community and to use this privileged position to influence positive discourse and obtain positive outcomes and equality for all Australians.

Community Outreach Community Outreach is the banner under which the activities of ourcommunity engagement strategy will fall. I have appointed a dedicated member of staff to coordinate the various projects that we have established, and to establish more. The aim of community outreach is to leave the grassroots of our community better off. It is not political, it’s social justice. I want to make a genuinely positive change to the lives of people in Reid and community outreach is one way to achieve that. I believe in social change, but it has to be sustainable. In past occurrences unfortunately this has not always been the case. My plan is to provide support projects but also encourage likeminded groups to come together to share resources and streamline action. Let’s make our community the best it can be. Assistance to the newest members of our community. Our government stands for equality and opportunity. It is my aim to demonstrate to my electorate that through strong community initiatives and strategic planning and engagement that positive change can be advanced in a sustainable and economically responsible way. The electorate of Reid is one of the most diverse in the country and we welcome more migrants than most other regions in Sydney. As such I see it as my role to facilitate a strategy so that just as we have all benefitted from migration in the past, multicultural Australia will remain strong into the future. I have already developed several partnerships and initiatives that will support this aim and will be looking to continually bolster the work as they progress. One project already successfully operating is a Conversation Club. This is where volunteers from around the electorate and wider Sydney region come together to simply have a chat over a cuppa and help to improve the English language skills  of new migrants in the process. In Reid there is a clear need for broadening the educational and employment opportunities of our youth, particularly those who come from multicultural backgrounds. If you are interested in getting involved in our community or if you have any ideas, please don't hesitate to contact me.
